The investigations into the Delhi serial blasts have revealed international links of the alleged militants behind the blasts. The police is tracking many foreign nationals that were “frequently called” by the alleged mastermind of the Delhi serial blasts, Atif Ameen alias Bashir. Atif was shot dead along with his associate, Muhammad Sajid, in a fierce encounter in a south Delhi locality on September 19. The police is investigating whether the alleged contacts were instrumental in providing financial support to Atif Ameen.
Highly placed sources in the police said that Atif had called many numbers of cell phone operators based in foreign countries after he purchased the subscriber identification module (SIM) card from an outlet in Jamia Nagar. “The mobiles that were seized from L-18 residence in Jamia Nagar have provided some vital clues in the case. The call records of the SIM number used by Atif has details of certain calls made to foreign countries. This can be a possible Hawala funding link of the alleged militants. We are investigating the matter as the links can provide crucial leads into the functioning of Indian Mujahideen,” a senior police official said on conditions of anonymity.
Officials said that the numbers that have been detailed in the call records of the mobiles confiscated from the L-18 apartment after the encounter are based mostly in Asian countries. Officials said many calls have been made from the mobile of Atif to Dubai, Vietnam, Saudia Arabia and Malaysia. The police has, as of now, not been able to trace the source of funding that goes into arranging basic amenities, living facilities, arranging materials for making bombs and other arrangements for the execution of serial bomb blasts. However, the police has claimed to have “definite proof of the involvement of Lashkar-e-Tayyaba.” “It seems to be a big conspiracy. Investigations are moving in a proper direction and more details are likely to come up in a few days,” the official said.
